History at Hyde Park

Hyde Park, Source: Absolutwade @ Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/absolutwade/Hyde Park is the centrepoint of Sydney, but how many of us take this gorgeous oasis for granted. It’s a great place for a picnic or a protest, but what do you really know about one of our most famous landmarks? For most of us, the answer is not a lot. But if you’d like to, you can this weekend.

History buff Mark Dunn will lead some guided tours of the park tomorrow, focusing on the history of its statues, fountains and landscapes. The tours are part of the History Council of New South Wales’ Historyweek celebrations.

The tours will depart from Archibald Fountain at 10:30 am, 12:30 am, and 2:30 pm. They’ll take an hour and a half to complete. Call Edda Boyd on (02) 9265 9895 to reserve your place.
