Beer, Food, and a Warm Bed at the Lord Nelson
It’s no secret that Aussies like to drink. A lot. It’s all fun while you’re at the pub, but the biggest problem with a big night out is that you have to get back home, or to your hotel. It’s enough to make you wonder why you didn’t just go to the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel!
That’s right: the Lord Nelson Brewery is a microbrewery, pub, restaurant, and hotel in one.
The Lord Nelson is the first, and only, boutique brewery in Sydney. They brew six 100% natural ales on the premises. The drinks are a little expensive, but they’re so tasty that it’s worth the price. The Admiral Ale is my pick, but there’s plenty of variety to suit all palates.
Variety is also the order of the day when it comes to The Lord Nelson’s eateries. The bar downstairs offers traditional pub fare, with pork pies, fish and chips, and a ploughman’s lunch. If you’re in the mood for something a little more up market, the brasserie upstairs is a winner. It serves up modern Australian cuisine like twice baked cheese soufflés, Himalayan fish curries, and lemon spatchcocks.
The accommodation combines modern facilities with old world charm. Its central location in The Rocks means you can walk to most of the city’s attractions. Ensuite rooms cost $180, but you can save $60 by sharing a bathroom with other travellers. This price includes a continental breakfast, the perfect remedy for a nasty hangover.
