One of the world’s foremost Rachmaninov conductors, Vladimir Ashkenazy, will lead the Sydney Symphony for nine very special performances. The symphony will also enjoy guest performances by the pianists Cristina Ortiz, Kazune Shimizu, Lukáš Vondráček and Garrick Ohlsson. These incredibly musicians have been hand-picked by Maestro Ashkenazy for their technical and expressive expertise.

The festival includes performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto 2, Piano Concerto 3, Piano Concerto 4, and Rachmaninov Rhapsody.

“Any time is a good time to revisit Rachmaninov,” Maestro Ashkenazy said. “He was a great composer with tremendous inventiveness and substantial validity. The idea of a festival is to celebrate the great achievement of a great composer, and to give him his due.”

The Sydney Symphony’s Rachminov Festival commences on Friday November 2 at the Sydney Opera House and concludes on November 17. Tickets are available online through the Sydney Symphony website or from the Opera House box office.
