Perfect Picnic Spots for Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day! Here at The Sydney Traveler we’ve given you plenty of ideas of how to spend the big day, but if you’ve still forgotten to make plans don’t stress. Sure, you’ve got little chance to scoring a table at your favourite restaurant, but I know some places you can always visit.

Sydney has so many beautiful parks and they’re just perfect for a picnic dinner. All you need is a rug, a nice bottle of wine, and some tucker and you’ve got instant romance. Here are five of my favourite spots.

This place is all about romance. Governor Macquarie had this seat made so his wife could enjoy the spectacular views on offer. Now all these years later, you and your love can enjoy the same stunning scene. There are worse things to look at than the Opera House, city skyline, Harbour Bridge, and Garden Island!

Here’s another park with some wonderful views. You’ll see Sydney Harbour, Balls Head and Goat Island from here. It also tends to be fairly quiet, although I can’t promise that will be the case tonight! The location is perfect for an after-dinner walk around the non-touristy part of The Rocks.

With the parklands covering 200 hectares, you’re bound to find a private space for a romantic picnic. My favourite spots are near the fountain or the lakes, but make sure you remember some bread for the ducks!

Balls Head Reserve
Balls Head Road, Balls Head
Balls Head Reserve is set high above the harbour, so it offers excellent views. You can picnic the old-fashioned way or take advantage of the coin-operated barbeques. There are also lovely walking tracks which lead down to the shore for an after dinner stroll.

Clontarf Reserve
Sandy Bay Road, Clontarf
It wouldn’t be an Aussie list if I didn’t include at least one beach location. The sunsets here are some of the most beautiful, and most romantic, I’ve ever seen. You can bring your own picnic to eat on the shoreline, use the barbeque facilities, or pick something up from one of the nearby fish and chips shops.
