Artsy Pyrmont Festival

Artsy Pyrmont Festival

Inner city Sydney will buzz with creativity on Saturday when the Pyrmont Art Festival hits town.
More than 300 12-inch square canvasses will be displayed on the day, forming a colourful quilt of paintings, mosaics, photographs and more. Local musos will also play to make this truly a creative day out.
If you see something you like, why not take it home? The festival provides a great opportunity to pick up a bargain, and support Sydney’s local artists with 75% of the proceeds benefiting them directly.
All participating artists are eligible to win the Pyrmont Art Prize, worth more than $8000. A people’s …read more

Sydney’s Stunning Churches

Sydney’s Stunning Churches

When you think about beautiful churches, you probably think about major European cities rather than Sydney. But New South Wales’ capital manages to hold its own, with the stunning St Mary’s Cathedral and St Andrew’s Anglican Church. These beautiful old buildings are a must-see for tourists and locals alike.
St Mary’s Cathedral is located to the east of Hyde Park. Its first stone was laid in 1868, but it’s still not finished! No one seems to care very much though, because this beautiful Gothic church is the centre of Sydney’s Roman Catholic community. Right now the spires are currently being installed, …read more

Another ANZAC for the Bridge

Another ANZAC for the Bridge

Folks will find it a little difficult to get around Sydney today due to the closure of the Anzac Bridge.
All lanes, including the pedestrian and cycle paths, will be closed from 5:30 am to midday. Clearways will also be enforced from Broadway to the Pyrmont Bridge.
All the hassles will be worth it though when the bridge’s New Zealand soldier statue is unveiled. The 4.2m figure joins the Australian soldier which has stood at the other end of the bridge for the last eight years.
The New Zealand soldier faces east, while the Aussie digger faces west. The sculptor Alan Somerville told …read more

Something Spicy

Something Spicy

Think all Chinese restaurants are the same? Think again.
Australian palates are used to Cantonese-style Chinese eateries, with their mild black bean, sweet and sour, and Mongolian dishes. But there’s a new kid on the block guaranteed to delight folks looking for something a little hotter.
Spicy Sichuan Restaurant in Glebe offers traditional Sichuan creations like sliced beef cooked in chilli oil, dry fried chicken with chilli pods, and steamed pork chops coated in flour and chilli. Yes, these dishes have a lot of chilli.
If you’re after something a little spicier than Sydney’s standard Asian fare, this could be just the ticket.

Tetsuya’s and Rockpool (fish) Amongst World’s Best Eats

Tetsuya’s and Rockpool (fish) Amongst World’s Best Eats

If you want a great meal in Sydney, you needn’t look any further than Tetsuya’s. The innovative restaurant, which combines Japanese flavours and French techniques, was ranked number nine in the S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
You’re also promised a world class meal at Rockpool (fish), which scraped in at number 49. Not a bad effort when you consider how many restaurants exist in the world!
Tetsuya’s and Rockpool (fish) were the only Aussie restaurants to make the prestigious list.

Health-Conscious Sydney Menus

Health-Conscious Sydney Menus

Here’s a move that will delight health conscious Sydneysiders and horrify the rest of us!
Restaurants and cafes around the city are beginning to display the nutritional details of their foods and drinks on the menu to satisfy fitness freaks. I’m sure the nutritionists love it, but honestly I can’t think of anything worse on a night out!
Most of us go out for a meal because we want to, not because we have to. While we’re out, I think most of us like to forget the diets and indulge a little. I know I don’t want to think twice before I …read more

Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

ANZAC Day encapsulates what it means to be Australian: the courage, the endurance, and the mateship. These qualities are just as important in Australian culture today as they were when the ANZACs landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.
It’s easy to see it as another day off work. But you’ll appreciate it so much more if you participate in one of the ANZAC Day events happening in the city.
It all kicks off at 4:15 am with the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Martin Place. It’s worth ditching the sleep-in for this moving service, but if you can’t rouse yourself …read more
