Tripr.tv Dishes the Dirt on Sydney Hotels
You’ve all heard me bitch and moan about Sydney accommodation that feels like it’s a little bit less than the star rating had me believe. So I’m quite excited to find a new website which looks to put a stop to that sort of thing. It’s called tripr.tv, and while it’s still in the growth stage it has the potential to make things a lot easier for travellers, no matter where they’re visiting.
First up you choose a country, then state, and finally the city you intend to visit. Key in Sydney and you’ll find information on some of the biggest local hotels, including The Westin, The Sheraton on the Park, and The Observatory.
Each hotel is rated, not by the accommodation industry but by real guests. So you’ll find why The Shangri-la Hotel impresses, the similarly priced Sebel Pier One gets a lacklustre three stars.
There’s a handy cost guide and information about the hotel, but the most interesting part is the video section. Right now it’s mostly glossy hotel-produced videos, but users are encouraged to submit their own videos. So suddenly we’ve got a way to see the real rooms, not just the lush executive suites they show us in the brochures.
There’s something in it for the budding videographers too. When someone books a hotel as a result of watching your video, you’ll earn a cut of the booking commission! Looks like I’ll have to get behind the camera next time I stay in the city!
