Metrobuses Fight Sydney Traffic Jams

Bus Lane

Two super-sized buses look set to ease congestion on Sydney’s roads.

The new Metrobuses, which can each carry more than 100 passengers, began operating this week. Three more of the maxi-buses are set to join them in the coming months.

The buses will connect the inner city to the eastern suburbs. That means it’s now even easier to check out the restaurants in Norton Street and Chinatown, do a spot of shopping at Broadway and Paddy’s Markets, see a film at Leichardt or George Street, and see the sporting events at Moore Park and Randwick Racecourse.

There’s no set timetable, but they’ll run every 10 minutes during peak time, every 15 minutes off-peak, and ever 20 minutes on weekends.Make sure you plan ahead though because the Metrobuses only accept pre-paid fares.

The buses are part of a state trial. Each has a slightly different seating set up, and customer feedback will determine which models the city adopts. So if you catch one, make sure to contact the state transport department to tell them what you thought!
