Free Motorcycle Parking in Sydney

With petrol prices sky-high, it’s little wonder that more people are ditching their cars for economical motorcycles and Motorcycle signscooters. Now there’s even more reason to make the change, with news that Sydney Council is offering free parking for all two-wheelers.

“The Motorcycle and Scooter Strategy supports our commitment to sustainable transport options and the shift away from large, polluting vehicles to smaller vehicles to complement walking, cycling and public transport,” explained Lord Mayor, Clover Moore MP.

Riders no longer need to buy a ticket to park in metered zones in the CBD, Pyrmont, Redfern, Ultimo, Darlinghurst, Paddington, or Kings Cross. They’ll also enjoy the introduction of anchor points and locking rails in untimed parking areas to improve security.

The scheme will be trialled for a year, and if all goes well we could see the free parking become permanent. Anything that gets people out of their cars and using more eco-friendly alternatives is a good thing by me!

    That’s GREAT.

How about regular bikes in Sydney? Do most places have bike racks?

Hi Dina – a lot of places do have bike racks, particularly outside tourist attractions, shopping centers, and train stations. We could always have more though to encourage completely green travel!
