Travel to Tokyo With Our Newest Blog

There’s a new face in the travel channel offering a unique perspective of one of the world’s most vibrant cities. For everything you need to know about Japan’s capital, point your browser to The Tokyo Traveler, an original blog written by Shane Sakata.
Shane’s a Canadian who’s currently living in bustling Tokyo. She tends to notice the things that the residents take for granted, making her blog the ideal reading material for anyone planning to travel to this part of the world. I’m sure she’ll even teach the locals a thing or two!

Taronga Zoo Welcomes Baby Chimp

Taronga Zoo Welcomes Baby Chimp

Taronga Zoo’s newest arrival, a baby chimpanzee, is now on show. The female chimp was born last Wednesday after a 45-minute labour. Check out the gorgeous photos here!
The adorable little bundle is the first daughter born to Shiba, an experienced mum of three boys.
Taronga Zoo has more male chimps than females, so the birth of this little girl has extra significance zoo spokesperson Mark Williams told AAP.
“Having another female opens up another genetic line,” Mr Williams told AAP.
“That helps us manage the genetics … so that in the long term we have a genetically sustainable group, one that is not …read more

Storms Force Beach Closures

Storms Force Beach Closures

The wild storms lashing the New South Wales/Queensland border have resulted in the closure of most of Sydney’s beaches.
Beach bunnies can enjoy the waves at Maroubra, Wanda, Coogee, Bondi, Freshwater and Palm Beach.
While these beaches are open, beachgoers are reminded to take precautions to ensure they stay safe. That means swimming in between the flags at all times, as rips are very strong.

Confessions of a Net Deprived Blogger

Confessions of a Net Deprived Blogger

My regular readers might have noticed it’s been a little quiet around here. I apologise for that.
I moved house last weekend and I hoped queuing up posts for that weekend was enough. I was optimistic enough to think the internet would be here waiting for me, and I could get back to blogging straight away rather than spend the early part of the week unpacking boxes.
You know what they say about the best-laid plans.
I’m back now though, and I’m letting my husband take over unpacking duties to spend some time catching up with things. So let’s get back to your …read more

Beat those Summer Sports Blues

Beat those Summer Sports Blues

Last weekend’s grand finals marked the end of the footy season, and the beginning of those all-too-familiar summer blues. The NRL and AFL trophies both headed south, so we can’t even bask in the afterglow of victory. It’s enough to make a sports fan seriously depressed. But I’ve got two pieces of news that just might cheer you up.
Firstly, we’ve still got a great national sports team winning games in our own backyard. We’ve been a bit slow to catch on to soccer, but with Sydney FC doing great things in the A League there’s no better time to cheer …read more

The Obligatory APEC Rant

The Obligatory APEC Rant

I’ve got to tell you, keeping this blog has certainly been a challenge lately. You all know why: APEC. How can I encourage you to spend time in Sydney when the city’s in virtual lockdown? What’s the use of telling you about all the great tourist attractions, when you probably won’t get to see them anyway?
If you’re not in Sydney, it’s difficult to understand what all the fuss is about. After all, APEC is designed to bring together the leaders of the Asia-Pacific region. They’ll discuss economic growth and build stronger relationships with one another, and all will be rosy. …read more
