Sydney’s Luna Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park are landmarks we should all see before they’re gone. They’ve just been named in the new book 500 Places to See Before They Disappear, which lists sites most at risk from developers and climate change.
It sounds like fairly miserable subject matter, but author Holly Hughes said that writing the book proved to be more positive than she’d first expected.

Have you seen Sydney’s new Vivacity website? Now I’d like to believe The Sydney Traveler is the only Sydney tourism site you need to visit, but this new addition is lots of fun.
It’s beautifully organised, with colourful characters like a Bondi surfer and an indie rocker helping you navigate the site. What I love most about it is that it celebrates our city’s diversity. It’d be remiss of me not to feature a World Youth Day photo today, wouldn’t it? It seems like nothing else that’s going on in Sydney at the moment really matters! I’m not religious myself, but it is nice to see so many international guests all having such a wonderful time. Here I’ve got some gorgeous Spanish pilgrims (for all my male readers!) getting excited as the Pope passes. It’s not every day you get to see the Pope, right?

I heard on the news this morning that it’s rained in Sydney for the last 11 days. It certainly feels like it too! All this grey weather makes me start fantasizing about tropical island paradises.

Blacktown Leisure Centre just got a lot safer with the installation of a new computerised lifesaver.
The system uses a series of cameras which are linked underwater and above the surface. Special software analyses the activity of all swimmers. It sounds an alarm when it detects a swimmer is drowning, alerting human lifesavers to the problem.
According to The Sunday Telegraph, the device has already prevented eight people from drowning. This includes a man who had a heart attack and two children who suffered asthma attacks.
