Eveleigh Park Precinct Celebrations
In 2005 the local community provided feedback for upgrades to three parks in the Eveleigh precinct. On Saturday the revamped Hugo Street Reserve, Yellowmundee Park, and Pemulway Park will be unveiled to the public.
So what’s changed? Well, local artists Bronwyn Bancroft and Dale Jones have created a stunning mural on the fence of Hugo Street Reserve. New native and street trees were planted, and there’s more grass for kids to play on. While Mum and Dad are watching the children they can sit down on the park’s new seats. Dogs will be happy too with the new low fenced area, which allows them to run around without disturbing the other parks patrons.
Yellowmundee Park will also enjoy new grass, new seating, and new trees. It also receives some new paved areas.
Kids will love the improvements to Pemulway Park. The playground has new swings, and a safer rubber surface for less cuts and bruises. There’s new paving surrounding the playground and near Lawson Street. It’s also got new grass and concrete kerbing. Pet owners will love the new dog waste bin, and there’s also a new drinking fountain. More new trees cap off the park’s renovations.
To celebrate the area’s improvements, there’ll be community celebrations on Saturday. It all kicks off in Pemulwuy Park at 11 am with a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.
After that crowds can take part in a walking tour to Yellowmundee Park via Hugo Street Reserve. This will give everyone a chance to see the parks’ improvements.
Make sure you stick around for a great concert featuring local acts like the Redfern Youth Program, Terry Olsen and crew, Eora Nation, and Wire MC plus DJ and Cho Cho. Luke Carroll hosts the show.
