Explore Sydney the Easy Way

by Lauren on October 22nd, 2007

Sydney can be a little intimidating for visitors looking to get around. It’s often difficult to know where to get off the bus or train, and we all know how expensive taxis can be. But don’t stress! The Sydney Explorer bus takes the hassle out of sightseeing.

The Sydney Explorer bus visits 27 famous Sydney sights, including the Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kings Cross, and Darling Harbour. Simply hop off where you please, then catch the next bus to visit somewhere new. Buses pass every 20 minutes, so you’re never kept waiting for too long.

You’ll travel in comfort on these air-conditioned buses, and even learn something about the city through the on-board commentary. As well offering interesting facts, the commentary also details the attractions near each bus stop. This ensures you get off at the right stop, and it may also encourage you to see somewhere you hadn’t planned.

Your Explorer ticket also entitles you to some fantastic discounts and bonus offers which you can use at tourist attractions, stores, and eateries around the city. But that’s not all. Your Sydney explorer ticket also allows you to travel on the Bondi Explorer, and many regular Sydney buses.

There’s no need to book, as tickets are available from the bus driver. One-day passes cost $39 for adults, $19 for kids, and $97 for family groups. Two-day passes cost $68 for adults, $34 for children, and $170 for families. The two-day tickets can be used for any two days within an eight-day period. Children under four can travel on the Explorer buses for free.

I prefer travel by car. I don’t like stopping at all the ‘main’ attractions because they usually are not the places I’d like best. Of course since I have the world’s worst direction sense road trips are odd to say the least. Also, tag! (got ya) http://www.treehuggingfamily.com/good-lord-its-a-meme/

*lol* I’ll get to the meme later today :-)

As for the transport part … I love my car but if I want to get out and about in Sydney (or most other Australian capitals for that matter!) I’ll leave it at home.

I live about an hour out of the city, and being in the thick of all that traffic freaks me out! I can only imagine how much it must scare tourists. Then you add that whole driving on the “wrong” side of the road thing and it’s a bit intimidating!
