Heritage Boats Afloat

by Lauren on February 8th, 2008

James Craig, Source: Sydney Heritage Fleet websiteWe’ve all seen the majestic tall ships sailing around Sydney Harbour, but did you know you can do more than just looking at them? Sydney Heritage Fleet regularly runs sailing days which allow members to really experience what these amazing vessels are all about.

You can take part in all the fun of sailing, or sit back and relax as the world goes by.

Choose from the James Craig, an authentic 19th century barque restored to its former glory by the Sydney Maritime Museum, the 1902 steam launch Lady Hopetoun, and the 1902 schooner Boomerang.

Membership to the Sydney Heritage Fleet is required to take part in the sailing experiences, but it’s worth it to be able to travel in these historic ships.

Dates: See the Sydney Heritage Fleet website for details of sailing days
Location: Wharf 7
Address: Pirrama Road, Pyrmont
Public transport: Catch ferry or light rail to Pyrmont Bay, or catch the #443 bus from the city to the Maritime Museum
Parking: Limited street parking is available in nearby side streets. Alternatively pay parking is available in Star City Casino
Cost: Membership costs $55 for adults, $30 for pensioners, seniors, and students, and $90 for families. Sailing trips vary in price
