Lest We Forget
ANZAC Day encapsulates what it means to be Australian: the courage, the endurance, and the mateship. These qualities are just as important in Australian culture today as they were when the ANZACs landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.
It’s easy to see it as another day off work. But you’ll appreciate it so much more if you participate in one of the ANZAC Day events happening in the city.
It all kicks off at 4:15 am with the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Martin Place. It’s worth ditching the sleep-in for this moving service, but if you can’t rouse yourself there are further events at more civilized hours.
At 8:30 am there’s the wreathlaying ceremony at the Cenotaph. Then at 9 am the ANZAC Day march will kick off at Martin Place. It’ll travel down George and Bathurst Streets before finishing at Hyde Park.
Then at 12:30 pm there’s an ANZAC Memorial service at Hyde Park South. The city’s ANZAC Day events conclude at 5 pm at The Cenotaph with the sunset service ceremony.
