Mexican Films Come to Town

Hola Film Festival logoWith the success of directors like Alejandro Gonzalez (Babel, 21 Grams) and Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy), the world is starting to notice Mexican filmmaking. The Hola Mexico Film Festival brings the colour and excitement of Mexican cinema to Sydney.

Ten new feature films will play during the festival, including the romantic comedy Tired of Kissing Frogs and psychological thriller Enlightened Blood. The festival also features the documentaries Born Without and 1973, and a classic program, A Tribute to Mexico, which screens the first works of Mexico’s most influential directors, Gonzalez, Del Toro, and Alfonso Cuaron.

The festival opens tonight with the romantic comedy Calling An Angel. Make sure you stay back after the movie to enjoy Mexican food, music and entertainment.

Date: Thursday 15 November to Wednesday 21 November
Time: Tonight’s screening starts at 8 pm. The cinema will show the movies in the evenings on weekdays, and all day on weekends. Check the website for a full schedule.

Address: Cnr Oxford St & Oatley Rd, Paddington
Public transport: The #378 bus from Central and #380 bus from Circular Quay or Elizabeth Street, the #380 bus from Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction, and the #352 bus from Marrickville and Newtown all stop outside the cinema.
Parking: There is street parking on Oatley Road and Moore Park Road.
Cost: Tonight’s premiere and after party costs $45. Regular single session tickets cost $15.50 for adults and $13.50 for concessions/movie club holders. Five-film passes cost $70 for adults and $60 for concession holders.
