Safe Swimming at The Basin

by Lauren on January 14th, 2008

The Basin, Source: Fauxen @ Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/fauxen/With wild weather lashing our coastline, it’s challenging finding a calm place for kids to swim these school holidays. But look no further. Just jump on a ferry and head to The Basin.

This sheltered beach near West Head in Pittwater offers calm waters and plenty of fun for kids.

But it’s more than just a swimming hole. The nearby bushlands offers some easy walking trails to keep the whole family entertained. When you’re walking keep your eyes peeled for Aboriginal rock engravings, hand stencils, and other indigenous landmarks.

The area offers barbeques and camping facilities, so it’s a great spot for tourists too.

Location: The Basin
Address: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Pittwater
Public transport: Catch a ferry from Circular Quay
Parking: A vehicle day pass costs $11
Cost: The Basin campground costs $14 per adult per night and $7 per child. If you’re taking your boat to The Basin you’ll need to pay landing fees. These are $3 for adults and $2 for children. This fee is waived for campers.
