Sydney’s Finest at Tetsuya’s
Tetsuya’s Restaurant is regularly named one of the best in the world, so it’s safe to say
that it probably offers the finest meal you’ll taste in Sydney.
Of course, this sort of quality doesn’t come cheap. But if you’ve got a few hundred dollars to spare, a night out at Tetsuya’s is worth your while.
Tetsuya’s is the brainchild of Tetsuya Wakuda. He left his native Japan at the age of 22, lured to Australia by his love of koalas. He soon met acclaimed Sydney chef Tony Bilson, who taught him the French techniques that influence his culinary creations today.
Tetsuya’s famous degustation menu offers ten courses that are always changing. The dishes complement one another perfectly, from hors d’oevres to signature mains and mouthwatering desserts. Tasty treats on the current menu include scallop carpaccio with red wine vinaigrette, twice cooked de-boned spatchcock with olive and caper jus, grilled wagyu beef with lime and wasabi, and chocolate terrine with marscapone and cognac Anglaise. Yum! Tetsuya’s also offers a brilliant wine list, with wines handpicked to match each course.
Tetsuya’s stunning heritage-listed site offers private dining rooms for groups and two main dining rooms overlooking manicured Japanese gardens.
The degustation menu costs $195 per person, plus drinks. Tetsuya’s serves dinner from Tuesday to Saturday from 6 pm, and lunch on Saturdays from noon. Bookings are essential.
