Not a Pirate in Sight at The Rum Diaries

Not a Pirate in Sight at The Rum Diaries

The Rum Diaries sounds like a seedy pirate hang-out but don’t be fooled. This hot new Bondi eatery is super friendly restaurant and bar.
Emmy-Award winning designer Mark Bowey has created a colonial interior which is warm and welcoming.
The open atmosphere continues with the menu, which features around 20 “fusion tapas” dishes which are made to share. My mouth’s watering just thinking about the Chilean Pil Pil prawns with citrus crème, Tuscan braised chicken drumsticks with olive salsa, and the naked wedges with Murray River salt and thyme.
But as the name suggests, visitors come for the rum. Your stay is not …read more

Sculpture By the Sea in Sydney

Have you seen Sculpture by the Sea yet? Australia’s largest free sculpture exhibit opened last Thursday, and it’s already attracting massive crowds.
And it’s not hard to see why. The exhibition stretches along the Bondi to Tamarama costal walk, so you get a workout while you’re enjoying some original art! The views from the coastal cliffs are stunning, providing a beautiful backdrop to these works. Taste Orange at Bondi

Taste Orange at Bondi

As a self confessed foodie, there’s one place I don’t hesitate to recommend at the moment. That’s Orange. This destination in country New South Wales has been doing some amazing things, producing some of the tastiest reds and most delicious fresh produce I’ve ever had.
Of course, we can’t all get to the country to experience them. So happily the country is coming to us this weekend! Taste Orange brings more than 30 food and wine stalls from the region to Bondi on Sunday.
There’ll also be cooking demonstrations and music to keep the crowds entertained, and children’s activities to keep the …read more

Let’s Go Fly a Kite

Let’s Go Fly a Kite

No matter how old I get, and how many high-tech toys I acquire, flying a kite remains one of life’s great pleasures. It seems a lot of people agree with me because the Festival of the Winds is celebrating its 30th birthday tomorrow!
The skies will come alive in a flurry of color when hundreds of kites of all shapes and sizes take flight. Look out for the international guests flying kites all the way from India, Malaysia, China, and Japan! These guys take their kites pretty seriously, but the event is open to all kite lovers.
If you don’t have one …read more

New Sydney Play is a Big Deal

New Sydney Play is a Big Deal

If you prefer your plays to feature gritty plots and black humour over fluffy music numbers, then Big Deal is for you. This raw production tells real Australian stories with equal measures of humour and darkness.
Big Deal tells the tales of six quirky characters living in Bondi. They come together through their mutual addictions and disconnection with society, and the results are mesmerising.
The play is brutally honest in its exploration of compelling themes including drugs, prostitution, and corruption. It knows life is not black and white, and reveals the shades of grey present in topics like drug legalisation and substance …read more

Suburb Spotlight: Bondi

Suburb Spotlight: Bondi

Bondi is one of Sydney’s most iconic suburbs, thanks to that world-famous beach. But there’s much more to this happening hotspot than sun, surf, and sand.
Where: Eleven kilometers from the city center, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs
How to get there: Take the train to Bondi Junction, or hop on the Bondi Explorer bus
Stay: Backpackers love Bondi, and Sinclairs Bondi Budget Accommodation, Surfside Bondi Beach, and Bondi Beachouse YHA are some of their most popular haunts. For something a little more upmarket, I recommend the Swiss-Grand Resort and Spa
Eat: Campbell Parade is the place to go for excellent cafes and restaurants, as …read more
