Today is Tavern Day, an occasion which marks the opening of America’s first tavern in Boston in 1634. To celebrate, the Travel Channel is serving up details of some of the world’s coolest bars.
Here in Sydney, we’re lucky enough to have one of the globe’s most multicultural populations. Our bar scene reflects this, with pubs proudly representing folks from all over the world. Here’s my guide to experiencing the best of Europe without ever leaving the city.

As its reputation grows, it seems more bands are playing at Homebush’s Acer Arena. It’s a great venue, but it’s just so far away from everything. And that can make it pretty difficult for fans wanting to grab a bite before the show. This was the dilemma I faced last night as I prepared to catch stadium rockers Bon Jovi.

The James Squire Brewhouse, located on the busy King Street Wharf, offers more than just beer. This surprising restaurant actually offers some of the best, and most affordable, pub grub in the city.
The Brewhouse caters for the tastes of all diners with two distinctive menus. The Lower Deck menu offers bistro classics like chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, and tasty burgers. These light meals are ideal if you’re pressed for time or you just feel like a quick snack.
