Sydney Photo Friday: Sydney Opera House

Sydney Photo Friday: Sydney Opera House

To commemorate the death this week of Danish architect Jorn Utzon I thought I’d take another look at one of his finest works, the Sydney Opera House. This striking building is one of Sydney’s most recognizable landmarks, a thriving cultural hub and a true marvel of modern architecture. I never tire of looking at it!

The locals know the Sydney Opera House isn’t just for the grown-ups. This wonderful venue has just announced their new Kids at the House program, guaranteed to entertain little ones through 2009.
The wonderful Babies Proms is always a highlight. In 2009 the program features the world’s most loved lullabies, African rhythms, and the beauty of ballet. Sydney Photo Friday: Illegal Rock-Climbing Makes for a Great Shot!

Sydney Photo Friday: Illegal Rock-Climbing Makes for a Great Shot!

You’re not technically allowed to climb Balls Head, but this gutsy rock climber did. Thankfully he captured the moment so we don’t have to do it too and risk being thrown in gaol! What an amazing silhouette this is with the Sydney harbour Bridge and Opera House in the background!

Sydney Photo Friday: Opera House Goes Pink

Sydney Photo Friday: Opera House Goes Pink

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month so I figured it was pretty appropriate to dig through the vault and show you this beautiful photo of the Opera House. A couple of years ago it was bathed in pink lights to raise awareness of breast cancer, and it’s just as important to do so today.
So get your mammograms if you’re old enough, and remember to do self examinations if you’re not! Also remember to keep an eye out for those pink products in the stores because money from their sale goes towards breast cancer research. We can all play our part to …read more

Kids Build This City

Kids Build This City

Get the whole family along to the Sydney Opera House forecourt this long weekend to participate in We Built This City. It’s a fun, interactive construction site!
There will be thousands of cardboard boxes for little kids, and big ones too, to build anything they can think of. You could make some skyscrapers, a bridge, or even the Opera House! Construction workers will be on hand to offer advice while the DJ spins all your favourite tunes.
At the end of the day the city will be squashed into a recyclable heap of cardboard rubble!
We Built This City is part of the …read more

Save Money in Sydney

Save Money in Sydney

Last month I brought you my top 10 Sydney freebies.
So I was interested to see an article in today’s Sydney Morning Herald offering up the best places for cheap entertainment.
These places might not cost you nothing, but they’re so affordable they’re pretty close to it!
Here are the great bargains the paper found.

Sydney Opera House on a Shoestring is a fantastic page put together by the Sydney Opera House. It tells you all about the shows costing you less than $50, including talks, plays, musical performances, and more. In fact, some concerts cost as little as $9! The page is arranged …read more

Sydney Photo Friday | The Olympic Games

Sydney Photo Friday | The Olympic Games

In honour of the Olympic Games kicking off this evening I thought I’d look back at Sydney’s games. Has it really been eight years? Time flies! So I found this beautiful photo with the rings illuminated on the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House aglow. Just beautiful. I wish all our athletes the best of luck in Beijing!

Is There a Wolf Under Your Bed?

Is There a Wolf Under Your Bed?

The spookiest and scariest show for kids these school holidays is Wolf Under the Bed. The play is based on twelve different stories written by Finnish school students.
It stars three bored travellers who are sitting in an isolated hut in the middle of the forest. As the night wears on they amuse themselves with the creepiest stories they know. But what do they do when the line between fantasy and reality blurs?
This entertaining production explores the imagination and our fear of the unknown, and it will have kids on the edge of their seats! Because of that it’s not recommended …read more

Sydney Photo Friday: Sun Sets on the Sydney Opera House

What a beautiful shot this is. I love the way the way the oranges and pinks show up on the cream sails of the Sydney Opera House. We really do have such a stunning city!

Tea for Two, Or Even More!

Tea for Two, Or Even More!

It seems everything old is new again. High tea is the latest craze inspiring girls who enjoy the finer things in life.
Several teas are on offer around Sydney, although strictly speaking they’re not exactly the “high teas” the Brits enjoyed in the 1700s. Today’s version is a more decadent affair, with pastries, chocolate covered strawberries, lemon tarts and freshly baked scones.
It’s also not all about the tea. The Globe Bar at the Observatory Hotel believes Pink Moet Chandon is the perfect starter before a warm cuppa. You’ll also enjoy yummy treats like quiche Lorraine while listening to the jazzy tunes …read more
