]]> Yabun is a celebration of Aboriginal and Aboriginal flag, Source: Tympsy @ Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/shannonhobbs/Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. The word “Yabun” means “song with a beat” in the Eora language. This annual event is held every year on Australia Day.

The event showcases all aspects of indigenous culture, including music, dance, food, language, politics, literature, and arts and crafts. The event officially opens at 12:20 with a welcome to country and a corroborree with traditional dancers.

Yabun is a fun event for the whole family, with a kids zone and youth tend to keep young ones entertained.

Koori Radio 93.7 FM will broadcast live from the event, and the telecast will be beamed around the country thanks to the National Indigenous Radio Service.

Yabun is a drug and alcohol free event.  If you’ve never seen Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island performances, Yabun is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Australia’s indigenous heritage.
