The Spit Bridge to Manly Walk
Sydney offers some beautiful walks, but few offer the diversity you’ll find on the path from the Spit Bridge to Manly. The
9.5 kilometer walk is like a backstage pass to Sydney Harbour’s foreshores.
Along the way you’ll drool over some of the city’s most stunning harbourside homes, discover Aboriginal middens, and explore subtropical rainforests and wild coastal heath.
It’s a long walk, so you’ll probably want to take a bottle of water with you. When the weather warms up it’s also worth packing a swimming costume and towel so you can enjoy some of the secluded beaches along the way.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. You never know what you might see! A native lizard, a colorful lorikeet, a fairy penguin, or even a humpback whale! If you’re in the mood for more sightseeing, consider a detour to see Grotto Point Lighthouse, or enjoy an ice cream from the Clontarf Beach café.
The walk ends at Manly, where you can get a bus back to Spit Bridge or a ferry to the city. Or if you’re feeling really ambitious, why not enjoy it all again with a walk back!

I’ve never really ventured out of the CBD in Sydney (so much to do there) but I’m thinking I might need to take a week’s break next time and get out a bit further for this type of thing.

That’s definitely the case. You’re right that there’s a lot to see in the city, but heading a little further out gives you a completely new perspective :-)

probably the same in most cities I guess - lots of hidden gems on the outskirts.
