Tour Oxford Street’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Walk of Fame and Shame

by Lauren on October 27th, 2008

Music tour

Enjoy a tour with a difference and follow Oxford Street’s Rock’n’ Roll Walk of Fame and Shame!

The tour, which is part of the Art & About festival, brings to life the colourful music history of the Darlinghurst precinct. Forget crusty old tour guides. In true rock and roll style, all you need for this tour is the free podcast and your trusty MP3 player!

The podcast is narrated by the people who were there, including Martin Plaza from Mental as Anything, Rob Younger from Radio Bridman, Any Anderson from the Missing Links, and more. From their sometimes hazy recollections you’ll hear about the vital role Oxford Street played in the rock scenes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

“It’s not just an interesting musical history,” explained podcast producer Hugh Liney. “It’s a sometimes hair-raising social history of Sydney through the crazed and manic stage performances by bands such as The Missing Links in the 60s, the emergence of punk in the 70s and finally the explosion of Oxford St into a dance and party Mecca.”
